Decorum introduces Joseph Massie to the surprising world behind Alstroemeria

Top florist Joseph Massie recently got a behind-the-scenes look at Together2Grow and discovered a world that is surprising even for an experienced florist.

From small bags hanging between the crops that turn out not to be tea bags, to a harvesting technique he had never seen before: modern Alstroemeria cultivation is all about precision, innovation, and sustainability.
During his visit, Robin van der Knaap, sales representative at Together2Grow, guides him through the greenhouse, where one goal takes center stage: fully organic cultivation by 2027.

“It feels new and fresh and honestly truly innovative,” says Joseph Massie.

Throughout the greenhouse, small bags containing beneficial insects hang everywhere, helping to create a natural balance within the crop. In this way, chemical products are gradually being replaced by natural solutions.

The harvesting method also stands out. The flowers are not cut, but carefully pulled from the plant. According to the growers, this results in stronger new shoots and a healthier crop in the long term.

From young plant to first harvest takes approximately eight weeks. After that, the plant continues producing for years, sometimes as long as five years.

At the end of the process, perhaps the biggest surprise awaits. Before a stem reaches the store, it passes through an advanced sorting machine equipped with X-ray technology.
Each stem is checked for thickness, density, and the number of flowers, ensuring that florists everywhere receive the same consistent quality.

With a combination of technology, craftsmanship, and biological innovation, Together2Grow demonstrates just how modern the world behind flowers truly is.
