Tomas De Bruyne
In the medieval city of Bruges, Tomas De Bruyne grew into one of the most sought-after floral architects in the world. His large-scale, architectural flower installations grace weddings, public events, and exhibitions across multiple continents.
His love for flowers began when, as a young man, he fell for a girl whose father ran a flower shop. What started as chance grew into a career spanning more than thirty years. Today he is director and founder of Tomas De Bruyne Floral Experiences Worldwide and of ATTITUDE DesignStudio. He also collaborates internationally with brands, growers, and private clients.
His work has earned him recognition time and again. In 2016, more than 100,000 visitors and the press crowned his floral chandelier the public favourite at the Ghent Floralies. The DeTao advisory board named him a Floral Design Master in China. The Royal Institute of the Elite of Labour also honoured him with the gold medal “Label Floral Master”. A Gloriosa Rothschildiana was named after him as well. A tulip bearing his name followed later. He has written more than fifteen books on floral design, including his recent title The Art of Design. In it, he offers insight into his creative process for the first time. His clients have included the Swarovski family and the Beijing Olympic Games, where he served as Senior Advisor.
He still serves as a judge at national and international floral competitions and gives lectures, seminars, workshops, and demonstrations worldwide. As co-founder of the EMC International training programme, he guides designers in discovering their creative potential. His most recent project is a collaboration with the creative director of Cirque du Soleil. Here, flowers take on a new role within the performing arts.
Anyone wanting to follow his work closely can find an overview of his projects and books on his website. On Instagram, he shares a behind-the-scenes look at his installations with more than 150,000 followers.
With his architectural signature, Tomas De Bruyne tells every floral story just a little differently. That is precisely what floral design embodies at its most ambitious.
