Decorum follows Straathof Flowers and their top-quality hyacinths
In the latest episode of Grower for a Day, Michael Perry, better known as Mr. Plantgeek, visits Straathof Flowers, the specialist in cut hyacinths. With his many years of experience in horticulture, Perry joins the team for a day and discovers how timing, craftsmanship and smart processes come together to deliver hyacinths of consistently outstanding quality.
Hyacinths at their best
Straathof Flowers is a family business that has specialised in growing and forcing hyacinths for more than 35 years. At this company, everything revolves around precision: cut hyacinths are a seasonal product and within a short period of time a perfect result must be achieved on a large scale.
Perry observes how the bulbs are prepared, processed and selected, and sees how smart systems and machines make the difference between a good stem and an exceptional hyacinth.
“Growing cut hyacinths really is a matter of thinking ahead,” says Straathof Flowers. “You work for months towards a short, intensive period. During those weeks, everything has to be right: quality, timing and logistics. That dynamic is exactly what makes the profession so beautiful.”
Decorum showcases craftsmanship
During his day at Straathof, Perry experiences first-hand the craftsmanship required to deliver top-quality hyacinths. Grower for a Day offers a unique behind-the-scenes look at a nursery where knowledge, experience and passion come together.
